DAILY maintenance

Good morning all. Today I am going to speak about daily basic maintenance … DAILY basic maintenance. It is very easy to have perfect swimming pool water if we do some basic stuff daily. The most common excuse I hear is ‘I just dont have time’. The fact is, you DO have time, you just dont feel that the pool is a priority for your time. Here are a couple things you really have to make time for and it should take no more than 15 minutes of your day. (it doesnt even need to be a block, you can break it up) 1. Walk around the pool and inspect. Check for settled debris in the pool. If there is none, great! If there is some, throw the robot in to clean or plan to vacuum it out. Debris in the pool will cause issues with water chemistry. 2. Empty the skimmer basket. A blocked skimmer basket will make the pump work harder since its trying to pull water through all that crud. Also, as the leaves, frogs, mice etc. deteriorate, it will affect water chemistry … especially your sanitizer as it will create a burden and use it up. 3. Inspect your equipment pad. Listen to your equipment! Does everything sound ok? Weird noises means something is not right. Look for leaks. I shouldnt have to tell you that leaks are bad. Look at your pressure gauge (on the filter). The only job this has is to let you know when its time to clean the filter. When your filter is clean, it will provide you with a ‘starting’ pressure (say 15psi). When your gauge is 8-10 psi over the starting pressure (23-25psi), its time to clean the filter. We dont want to clean the filter until then as the dirt blocks the holes (which is why the pressure rises) and makes the system more efficient as it has to filter out smaller particles. If you have a salt system or automation, make sure there are no warning lights or messages. Thats it! Basic pool maintenance in three easy steps. This will not guarantee clean, clear, safe water but it goes a long way in achieving that goal.
